Softball Recap: Canyon Hills Gets the Win

Canyon Hills proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Clairemont Chieftains, sneaking past 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Rattlers: when they faced off against the Chieftains back in April, they had to take a 8-6 loss.

Natalye Debus spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Canyon Hills saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zorah Shoate, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Canyon Hills pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Clairemont, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Hills will face off against University City at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clairemont, they will square off against Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chieftains are facing the Warhawks at the right time seeing as the Warhawks are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
