Basketball Game Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. Shaw Warriors

The Simmons Blue Devils and the Shaw Warriors will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Simmons sitting on 13 straight victories and Shaw on five.

Simmons is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past South Delta to the tune of 65-28 on Thursday. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Simmons to victory, but perhaps none more so than Karmen Marshall, who shot 86% from the field en route to 19 points and six rebounds. Those 19 points gave Marshall a new career-high. Moesha Hoskins was another key player, going 6-for-11 on her way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Simmons was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Meanwhile, Shaw didn't have too much trouble with Riverside on Thursday as they won 38-24.

Simmons' win bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Shaw, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Simmons came out on top in a nail-biter against Shaw when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 34-32. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
