Softball Game Preview: Barnstable Red Hawks vs. Monomoy Sharks

Barnstable hasn't had much luck against Monomoy recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Red Hawks will host the Sharks at 5:00 p.m. Barnstable has given up an average of 15.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Barnstable is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Monday. They came up short against New Bedford, falling 21-2.

Meanwhile, on Monday Monomoy's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Plymouth North. Those six runs were actually the fewest the Sharks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Alana Lojko spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Monomoy secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Kiley Mawn, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Monomoy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.

Monomoy's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Barnstable, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
