Softball Game Preview: Goldwater Bulldogs vs. Agua Fria Owls

The Goldwater Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Agua Fria Owls at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Goldwater has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Goldwater took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Shadow Mountain, sneaking past 17-16. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Goldwater got a massive performance out of Johanna Hampton, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. With that strong performance, Hampton is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Trufin, who scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Goldwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Agua Fria posted their closest victory since April 18, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Peoria 5-4. The Owls haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Goldwater's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-9. As for Agua Fria, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.

Everything went Goldwater's way against Agua Fria in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Goldwater made off with a 16-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
