Basketball Recap: Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton Takes a Loss

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 67-25 loss at the hands of the Woodlawn Cardinals. The loss continues a trend for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton in their matchups with Woodlawn: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Stayton, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Stayton has been hot, having posted 11 or more boards the last six times she's played.

Even though they lost, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Woodlawn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrea Kibler, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie Hockett, who posted 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Woodlawn, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton will head out on the road to challenge Pope County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pope County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodlawn, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 83-29 victory against Goreville on the 27th.
