Baseball Recap: Palm Bay Comes Up Short

Palm Bay lost to Merritt Island back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pirates lost 13-4 to the Mustangs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Pirates, who until this game were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.

Nolan Werle was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Jose Rivera also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Palm Bay and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Merritt Island, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Coming up, Palm Bay will square off against St. Edward's at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Merritt Island, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Vero Beach at 6:00 p.m. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
