Volleyball Recap: Normal Community Falls Short of Marist in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Normal Community couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marist RedHawks on Monday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Ironmen haven't been shut out since back in September.

Despite the loss, Normal Community saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Evie Mounce had 14 assists and six digs. Mounce has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more assists the last 15 times she's played. Ella Michalak also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

With the defeat, Normal Community broke their nine-match winning streak and moved their record to 34-6. As for Marist, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 34-5.

Normal Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marist, they will take on Fremd at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
