Softball Game Preview: Kankakee Kays vs. Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers

Kankakee is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Joliet Catholic is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Kays will host the Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If Kankakee beats Joliet Catholic with 19 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Kays' way against Thornwood on Monday as they made off with a 19-9 victory. Considering the Kays have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Calleigh Moody was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kylie Glogowski was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple.

Moody wasn't the only one making solid contact: Kankakee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for the Kays: they were averaging 3.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.

Meanwhile, Joliet Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Benet Academy on Saturday, taking the game 15-10.

Joliet Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Kankakee, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
