Softball Preview: Prairie Falcons vs. Kelso Hilanders
The Prairie Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Kelso Hilanders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Prairie is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Prairie will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Mountain View on Wednesday. Prairie came out on top against Mountain View by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Prairie has managed all season.
Rylee Wall spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just zero earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Mackenzie Moore was incredible, going 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Scholl, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Kelso never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Evergreen with a sharp 10-0 win.
Kelso also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylie Killett gave up just zero earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. Killett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Hannah Currence was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Brooke Hefley was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Prairie's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Kelso, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.
Prairie skirted past Kelso 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Prairie since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
