Softball Recap: Whitehall Find Success

Whitehall won the last time they faced Fremont and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Packers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since May 18, 2024.

Megan Leatrea was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Janie Fagan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Bella Fogus was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Whitehall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Whitehall's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Fremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Packers beat Whitehall by a score of 12-2 later that day.
