Softball Recap: Santa Fe Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Santa Fe and Port Neches-Groves squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Santa Fe had to settle for second. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Port Neches-Groves. The shutout was out of character for Santa Fe seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Carlie Hrncir was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Santa Fe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelynn Torres, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Torres is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Santa Fe and nudges their season record down to 17-14. As for Port Neches-Groves, they are on a roll lately: they've won 21 of their last 24 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season.

Santa Fe does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Port Neches-Groves, they will face off against Lake Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 30th straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
