Softball Recap: St. Vincent De Paul Extends Winning Streak to Four

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Vincent de Paul had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Willits Wolverines as they made off with a 14-2 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by 11 runs or more this season.

Makayla Bignardi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Gracie Murphy was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Maddy Rynning was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBI.

St. Vincent de Paul was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willits only posted a batting average of .111.

The victory (which was St. Vincent de Paul's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Willits, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-10.

St. Vincent de Paul does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Willits, they will challenge Biggs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Biggs will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Willits surely won't give up without a fight.
