Basketball Recap: Nelson County Finds Playoff Glory Versus Appomattox County

It's playoff time, and Nelson County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 48-39 win over the Appomattox County Raiders on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Governors as they're now sitting on ten straight.

Nelson County was led to victory by Bryce Giles and Colton Ward. Giles dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Ward dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Giles' big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Winter, who posted nine points.

When it comes to explaining why Appomattox County lost, don't look at Riley Chandler. Despite the final result, he shot 86% from the field en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. Those 17 points gave Chandler a new career-high. Josiah Perry also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Nelson County's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.9 points over those games. As for Appomattox County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.

Nelson County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-48 victory against Gretna on the 27th. Appomattox County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
