Baseball Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Friday. Meridian lost 17-5 to Columbia. The loss continues a trend for Meridian in their meetings with Columbia: they've now lost three in a row.

Malachi Atterberry made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Meridian is 2-1 when Atterberry posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Scarbrough, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Columbia, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Meridian will venture away from home to challenge Brandon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meridian has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Columbia, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 16-4 win against Mendenhall on the 14th.
