Football Recap: Covenant Day Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Covenant Day had lost six straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-6 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They took down the SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles 44-29. The Lions' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Covenant Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Massey, who threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes. The dominant performance also gave Massey a new career-high in passer rating (145.8). Michael Banke was in the mix as well, providing Covenant Day with two TDs.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Covenant Day's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Mark Henderson, James Barry, and Levi Hoffman, who each picked up one sack apiece.

As for SouthLake Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.3 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.92 in the others.

SouthLake Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaeden Eddie, who picked up 181 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Eddie really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Cameron Gandy, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will host Asheville School (Independent) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, they will welcome Hickory Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 14.7 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
