Basketball Game Preview: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Sahuarita Mustangs

Walden Grove is 8-2 against Sahuarita since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Both will face off at 7:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Walden Grove knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Sahuarita likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Walden Grove lost to Mica Mountain at home by a 91-76 margin. The Red Wolves haven't had much luck with the Thunderbolts recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Walden Grove had strong showings from Mitchel Collins, who posted 22 points, and Malachi Kuti George, who scored 20 points. The dominant performance gave Kuti George a new career-high in points. Asa Rupp was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Meanwhile, Sahuarita unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a blow against Cholla, falling 87-36. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.

Sahuarita's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-14. As for Walden Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-13.

Walden Grove took their win against Sahuarita in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 70-46. Will Walden Grove repeat their success, or does Sahuarita have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
