Baseball Recap: Monroe Central Takes a Loss

Monroe Central extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-13 in the process. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Richmond Red Devils. Surprisingly, this marked the Golden Bears' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Myles Oliphant put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Oliphant was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Oliphant wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Luedike, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Richmond, they now have a winning record of 7-6. Surprisingly, this marked their fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

On Richmond's side, Jamason Hall looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Red Devils are 3-1 when Hall allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Corey Day was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Monroe Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 win against Blackford on the 16th. As for Richmond, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-4 loss against New Haven on the 16th.
