Softball Recap: Jserra Catholic Takes Down Sonora in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only JSerra Catholic walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sonora Raiders on Saturday, sneaking past 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Lions as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Liliana Escobar tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Annabel Raftery, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madeline Capek, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

JSerra Catholic pushed their record up to 17-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-10.

JSerra Catholic has already played their next match, a 7-1 victory against Palos Verdes on the 21st. Sonora does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
