Baseball Recap: North Salinas Triumphs

North Salinas won the last time they faced Marina and things went their way on Monday too. The Vikings came out on top against the Mariners by a score of 5-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Josh Degroodt and Julian Gabriel made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Degroodt tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gabriel kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Degroodt went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Gabriel went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Gabriel has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Markus Camacho, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

North Salinas lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

North Salinas' win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Marina, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

North Salinas will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mariners: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
