Recap: Timberlake Christian Tornadoes vs. Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES
Even though the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes have not done well against the Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Timberlake Christian managed a 24-18 victory over Roanoke Valley Christian. This was payback for Timberlake Christian, who suffered a 48-27 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Among those leading the charge was Emma Luther, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Luther is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Mooney, who scored two points along with eight steals.
Several EAGLES players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Hurt, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Hurt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Celina Baader was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Timberlake Christian's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Roanoke Valley Christian, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Timberlake Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Friday. As for Roanoke Valley Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Christian Heritage Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. Christian Heritage Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
