Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for O'connor

O'Connor won the last time they faced Taft and things went their way on Friday too. Everything went the O'Connor Panthers' way against the Taft Raiders as the O'Connor Panthers made off with a 63-39 victory. That 24 point margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.

O'Connor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hagen Hurst led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Hurst is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Herrera, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

The win was the fifth in a row for O'Connor, bringing their record for this year to 13-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Taft, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-19.

O'Connor will venture away from home to face off against Warren at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Warren: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while O'Connor has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Taft, they will welcome Marshall at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshall knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge.
