Basketball Recap: Akiuk Memorial Has No Trouble Against Nelson Island

Akiuk Memorial won the last time they faced Nelson Island and things went their way on Saturday too. The Akiuk Memorial Grizzlies put the hurt on the Nelson Island Islanders with a sharp 63-42 victory. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Chloe Wassillie had a dynamite game for Akiuk Memorial, putting up 26 points. The dominant performance gave Wassillie a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jaylene Kalila, who posted ten points.

When it comes to explaining why Nelson Island lost, don't look at Acelyn Moses. Despite the final result, she had 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Lincoln, who put up nine points.

The win made it two in a row for Akiuk Memorial and bumps their season record up to 20-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24 points. As for Nelson Island, they dropped their record down to 7-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Akiuk Memorial has already played their next match, a 53-31 victory against Lewis Angapak on the 2nd. Nelson Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
