League recap: Walters races to league-leading run for Paonia

1A Western Slope recap September 10, 2013

Paonia's Taylor Walters rumbled for the longest rushing play in 1A Western Slope this season in his game against Grand Valley last week. Walters ran for 51 yards on the play and finished with 332 on the day as his team defeated the Cardinals.

Roaring Fork moved up to 137 from 175 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rams climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Aspen 20-17.

Hotchkiss's dynamic duo of Devan Rupe and Chris Allen proved tough for Buena Vista to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rupe threw for 82 yards and Allen had 69 yards receiving.

The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Rupe and Allen proved to be unstoppable against the Demons, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Tony Darling made the biggest impact on defense this week as Paonia beat Grand Valley. The 6-foot-3 senior forced 2 fumbles and racked up 2.0 sacks.

Walters was a force in the backfield as Brent McRae's team defeated Mike Johnson's team.

Walters was the best running back in the league this week. Will Austin also contributed to the rushing game with 107 yards on the ground.

Rupe put up the best numbers through the air as Hotchkiss lost to Buena Vista.

Walters provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles topped the Cardinals.

Allen was the best receiver in 1A Western Slope this week as Zac Lemon's team fell to Matt Flavin's team.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Joel Simlaner. The Paonia star has 4 catches for 121 yards.

Cedaredge was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Bruins defeated Olathe 34-20 earlier in the week.
