Basketball Recap: Burkeville Piles Up the Points Against High Island

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Spurger, Burkeville was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 46-19 win over the High Island Cardinals. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burkeville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kalep Adams, who dropped a double-double on ten boards and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Adams a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kort Metts, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Burkeville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

High Island's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kwmae Medina, who posted a point and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Cam'Ron Medina, who scored six points.

Burkeville's record now sits at 6-15. As for High Island, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 17 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season.

Burkeville will square off against Goodrich at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Goodrich has lost 11 straight at home , while Burkeville has lost three on the road. As for High Island, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the High Island Cardinals challenge the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats at 7:04 p.m. on February 4th.
