Basketball Recap: Blanca Martinez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Asheville Christian Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against A.C. Reynolds, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They managed a 43-38 victory over the Asheville Christian Academy Lions. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 63rd in Georgia, while the Lions are ranked 203rd in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Blanca Martinez out in front who posted ten points and four steals. Martinez is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 15 games she's played. Emmie Moore was another key player, going 5 for 11 to rack up 14 points.

Despite the loss, Asheville Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Sara Larios, who had 18 points. That was a full 47.4% of Asheville Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Rinehart, who earned six points and five boards.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's record is now 15-11. As for Asheville Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-11.

Coming up, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee will square off against Charlotte Country Day School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Asheville Christian Academy, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Lions challenge the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
