Football Recap: Kane Starts Season with Victory Against Smethport

Kane gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Everything went their way against the Smethport Hubbers as they made off with a 34-8 win. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 14-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kane was led to victory by Evan Anderson and Eric Novosel. Anderson rushed for 146 yards and three TDs, while Novosel rushed for 91 yards and one score. Those 91 rushing yards gave Novosel a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Kane proved: they limited Smethport to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Damien Wells for the heroic effort on defense: he. Kane didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.2.

Smethport's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonah Ganoe, who picked up 149 receiving yards and one touchdown. Ganoe really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 74 yards.

Looking ahead, Kane is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Coudersport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Smethport, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ridgway/Johnsonburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Hubbers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
