Recap: Independence Knights vs. Emerson Mavericks
The Independence Knights''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 72-7 defeat at the hands of Emerson. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 825th, while Emerson is ranked 135th).
Emerson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kameron Lockhart, who rushed for 58 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Lockhart has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Hawkins, who threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Emerson, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Emerson will square off against Grapevine at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grapevine is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
