Basketball Recap: Russell County Takes a Loss

Russell County was the 76-67 winner over Metcalfe County when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Russell County Lakers fell just short of the Metcalfe County Hornets by a score of 37-34 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Hornets are ranked 32nd).

This is the second loss in a row for Russell County and nudges their season record down to 8-14. As for Metcalfe County, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell County has already played their next matchup (against Monroe County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Metcalfe County will head out to challenge Cumberland County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cumberland County will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Metcalfe County surely won't give up without a fight.
