Softball Recap: Mendota Trojans vs. Erie-Prophetstown Panthers

Mendota extended their losing streak to 15 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 last Monday.

Mendota saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Henkel, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Erie-Prophetstown, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games.

On Erie-Prophetstown's side, Wynn Renkes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Renkes has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Erie-Prophetstown got a massive performance out of Lillian McWilliams, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Coming up, Mendota will be playing in front of their home fans against Riverdale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Erie-Prophetstown, they will face off against Oregon at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st.
