The Granada Hills Charter Highlanders will square off against the Chatsworth Chancellors at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Granada Hills Charter comes in on four and Chatsworth on three.
Granada Hills Charter barely beat Birmingham the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Highlanders put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 13-2 victory on Friday. Considering the Highlanders have won 11 games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Zoe Justman, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Giselle Meridia, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Granada Hills Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Birmingham only posted an OBP of .238.
Meanwhile, Chatsworth never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Birmingham 1-0.
The result came thanks to Samantha Roldan's shutout, as she gave up just four hits.
On the hitting side, Chatsworth saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lila Mashhoud, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Granada Hills Charter pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chatsworth, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-12.
Chatsworth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Granada Hills Charter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Chatsworth, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Granada Hills Charter's sizable advantage in that area, the Chancellors will need to find a way to close that gap.
