Baseball Recap: Fruitvale Comes Up Short

Fruitvale extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-8-2. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cumby Trojans. If the Bobcats were looking for revenge after losing 14-2 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

CAYDEN LUPPLACE spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

As for Cumby, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-14-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Fruitvale since March 20, 2018.

On Cumby's side, Jace Evans made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Evans also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cumby is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-13-1 otherwise. Evans was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Evans, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Bryce Bearden also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

While Fruitvale had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
