Baseball Recap: Morrison Comes Up Short

Morrison fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Annawan-Wethersfield on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 5-3. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Ayden Meinsma put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Morrison's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't).

Meinsma wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Stobbe, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Morrison's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Annawan-Wethersfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Coming up, Morrison will challenge Erie-Prophetstown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Annawan-Wethersfield, they will welcome Sherrard at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
