It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Selma had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They strolled past the Marbury Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. Given the Saints' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tristin Blocton was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 16 on his way to 29 points. The match was his third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquarious Bradely, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Despite the loss, Marbury saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamar Brown put up 14 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Driver, who earned nine points.

Selma's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Marbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15.

Coming up, Selma will face off against Sylacauga at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sylacauga knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Selma likes a good challenge. Marbury does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
