Baseball Recap: Midlakes Comes Up Short

Penn Yan Academy hit Midlakes with a seven-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Screaming Eagles fell 10-6 to the Mustangs. The loss continues a trend for the Screaming Eagles in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Zach Donk and Braxton Wilkes put in work while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Donk tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wilkes struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Donk earned one run and two stolen bases, while Wilkes went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jackson Nurse was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Midlakes' defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Penn Yan Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-13.

Midlakes has already played their next contest, a 10-6 loss against Geneva on the 17th. Hopefully Penn Yan Academy paid attention to the Screaming Eagles' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Screaming Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
