Basketball Recap: Sutton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Sutton extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 10-3. They put the hurt on the Wood River Eagles with a sharp 56-31 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Sutton found their leader in freshman Kali White, who posted ten points and four steals. Avery Smith was another key player, putting up nine points.

Sutton was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wood River only posted two.

As for Wood River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7. The defeat continues a trend for them in their meetings with Sutton: they've now lost five in a row.

Wood River's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lacie Frear, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards. Frear is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dre VanWinkle, who scored six points.

Coming up, Sutton will take on Thayer Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wood River, they will square off against Broken Bow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
