Baseball Game Preview: Saugus Sachems vs. Marblehead Magicians

Saugus is 2-8 against Marblehead since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sachems will take on the Magicians at 4:00 p.m. Neither Saugus nor Marblehead posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Wednesday, Saugus didn't have quite enough to beat Salem and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Sachems have lost by just one run.

Cam Soroko put in work no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Soroko wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Soroko, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Nathan has snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Marblehead fell victim to Beverly and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 1-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Magicians were not able to get on the board.

This is the second loss in a row for Saugus and nudges their season record down to 3-3. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Marblehead, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3.

Saugus couldn't quite get it done against Marblehead when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-4. Can the Sachems avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
