Basketball Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Frederick Golden Eagles
Niwot was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Frederick Golden Eagles. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Golden Eagles from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.
Despite the loss, Niwot still got an impressive performance from Rohit Das, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc to rack up 24 points and five boards. That's the most points Das has posted since back in February of 2024.
Frederick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zach Burton led the charge by going 5-for-11 en route to 12 points. Olly Justice was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.
Niwot's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Frederick, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.
Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. As for Frederick, they will square off against Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Frederick likes a good challenge.
