The Crowley County Chargers will challenge the Byers Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Crowley County: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Byers has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Crowley County and Fowler meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Chargers came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 12-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Chargers have suffered since April 16th.
Tritt Buhr put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Derreck Buford was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Byers got the win against Front Range Christian on Monday by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Crowley County, Byers also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaden Bennett. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Bennett also tossed a walk, which is notable because Byers is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-8 otherwise. Bennett was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Chas Butterfield was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Gabe Price was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Byers has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Crowley County, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Crowley County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Byers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Crowley County suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Byers in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Chargers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
