Baseball Recap: Edinburgh Takes a Loss

Edinburgh had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it ten. They lost 12-2 to the Southwestern Spartans. That's two games in a row now that the Lancers have lost by exactly ten runs.

Edinburgh saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avynn Whitaker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Whitaker has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Adam Prather also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Southwestern, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by nine runs or more this season.

On Southwestern's side, Isaac Bunch made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Bunch was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Southwestern is undefeated when Bunch posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Southwestern let James Oliver and Landon Drake run wild. Oliver went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Drake went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Drake has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Schoolcraft, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Edinburgh will be playing in front of their home fans against Brown County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lancers are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Southwestern, they will be taking part in a tournament against Triton Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
