Baseball Game Preview: Branchville Yellow Jackets vs. Woodland Wolverines

Branchville hasn't had much luck against Woodland recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Branchville will face off against Woodland at 6:00 p.m. Branchville will be strutting in after a victory while Woodland will be coming in after a defeat.

Branchville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Charleston Math & Science on Tuesday as Branchville made off with a 25-3 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Chayse Lytle and Seth Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Lytle scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Shaw scored a run while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave Lytle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Finn Aull, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Branchville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Woodland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Bluffton, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Wolverines have lost by exactly ten runs.

Woodland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dayton Cloer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Thomas Martin also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Branchville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Woodland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
