Basketball Recap: MacArthur Takes a Loss

MacArthur fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Westfield on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 68-64 to the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 547th, while the Mustangs are ranked 223rd).

Despite the loss, MacArthur still got an impressive performance from Andrew Victrum, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 30 points and four steals. Victrum is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Joshua Morales, who posted 11 points.

Leading Westfield to victory were Korde Smith and Tray Carmouche. Smith shot 44% from the field to rack up 26 points and seven rebounds, while Carmouche earned 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in assists (two). Christopher Clay was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for MacArthur and nudges their season record down to 9-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points over those games. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
