Basketball Game Preview: Irvington Vikings vs. Tennyson Lancers

The Irvington Vikings will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Tennyson Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Thursday, Irvington was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Mt. Eden. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 901st, while the Monarchs are ranked 361st).

Meanwhile, Tennyson came up short against Freedom on Thursday and fell 51-42. The Lancers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Irvington will need focus on slowing down Matthew Lorje, one of several Tennyson players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Walker, who posted three points and 25 boards.

Irvington's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Tennyson, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Everything came up roses for Irvington against Tennyson in their previous meeting back in January of 2019, as the team secured an 86-47 victory. In that game, Irvington amassed a halftime lead of 49-23, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
