Basketball Recap: Crystal River Gets the Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Crystal River ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They escaped with a win against the Lake Weir Hurricanes by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Crystal River's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ej Jenkins, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Jenkins has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Yost, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Lake Weir's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Smith, who had ten points and five steals. Kevin Shell was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and eight boards.

Crystal River has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Lake Weir, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-11.

Crystal River will face off against Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Fe will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Crystal River surely won't give up without a fight. Lake Weir does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
