Baseball Game Preview: Brownstown Central Braves vs. Trinity Lutheran Cougars

The Brownstown Central Braves will face off against the Trinity Lutheran Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brownstown Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Brownstown Central let Austin stack five runs on them in the second inning on Thursday but luckily Brownstown Central prevailed anyway. The Braves narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Kye Trueblood was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grant Killey was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Short, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Trinity Lutheran's offense. They lost 20-0 to Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday. The Cougars' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Brownstown Central's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Trinity Lutheran, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Everything went Brownstown Central's way against Trinity Lutheran in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Brownstown Central made off with a 16-7 victory. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
