Softball Recap: Prout Crusaders vs. St. Raphael Academy Saints

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Prout had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the St. Raphael Academy Saints by a score of 9-6. This was a revenge game for the Crusaders: when they faced off against the Saints back in April, they had to take a 8-4 defeat.

Megan Gardiner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sara Slitt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rachel Dias, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Prout always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Raphael Academy only posted an OBP of .323.

The victory got Prout back to even at 12-12. As for St. Raphael Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-7.

Coming up, Prout will head out on the road to square off against Westerly at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. St. Raphael Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
