The Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Canby Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Wednesday, Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts needed a bit of extra time to put away Parkrose. They had just enough and edged out the Broncos 10-9. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.

Sage Nuckols was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keara Neel, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylie Brown, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.
Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Canby entered their tilt with La Salle on Wednesday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Falcons.
Alli Hayzlett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Abigail Troutman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Madi Bigej was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Canby's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Canby struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
