Basketball Game Preview: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs

The Spanish Springs Cougars will challenge the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Spanish Springs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Reed, who was ranked sixth at the time (Spanish Springs was ranked fourth). Spanish Springs blew past Reed 62-34 on Monday. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Damonte Ranch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Galena with a sharp 64-39 win on Monday. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.

Spanish Springs better keep an eye on Mya Ghisletta. She was instrumental in Damonte Ranch's win, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. What's more, Ghisletta also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Kylee Moscove was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points.

Damonte Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

The win was the sixth in a row for Spanish Springs, bringing their record for this year to 12-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.5 points. As for Damonte Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 3-13.

Everything went Spanish Springs' way against Damonte Ranch when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as Spanish Springs made off with a 64-38 win. Will Spanish Springs repeat their success, or does Damonte Ranch have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
