Basketball Recap: Riverview Takes a Loss

Riverview lost against Sumner back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sharks came up short against the Stingrays, falling 70-46. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Stingrays are ranked 246th).

When it comes to explaining why Riverview lost, don't look at Jaiden Woodson. Despite the final result, he posted seven points in addition to 12 boards and three blocks. Woodson has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. Jordyn Bailey also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Sumner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Miles Moore led the charge by going 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Moore has become a key player for the Stingrays: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three steals, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Immanuel Kelly, who shot 58% from the field en route to 19 points and three steals.

Riverview now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Sumner, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Riverview will take on Tampa Prep in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sharks' defense better be ready for this one: the Terrapins have averaged an impressive 65.3 points per game this season. As for Sumner, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Spoto at 8:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
