Baseball Recap: Northeast Comes Up Short

Dickson County hit Northeast with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2016.

Cameron Skaggs was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Northeast is 6-3 when Skaggs posts two or more stolen bases, but 9-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Shamad Parker, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Northeast and nudges their season record down to 15-17. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Dickson County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-16 record this season.

Northeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dickson County, they will take on Christ Presbyterian Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
