Softball Game Preview: Housatonic Mountaineers vs. Nonnewaug Chiefs

Housatonic hasn't had much luck against Nonnewaug recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mountaineers are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Chiefs at 3:45 p.m.

Housatonic is leaving town to face Nonnewaug after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Mountaineers came up short against Shepaug Valley last Tuesday, falling 22-4. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, Nonnewaug put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Staples by a score of 8-5. The eight-run effort marked the Chiefs' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Scarlett Ivey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Gianna DeLorenzo was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Ashlynn Blum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and six RBI.

Housatonic came up short against Nonnewaug in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 10-7. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
